Background: Vaccine injection is one of the painful procedures for infants. Since this pain can create unpleasant experiences for the infant and leave negative effects on the parents' memory of the vaccine. It seems that it is necessary to use appropriate approach to relieve this pain. This study was conducted with the aim of assessing the effect of music on vaccination's pain in infants. Methods & Materials: In this randomized clinical trial, 90 six-month-old infants referred to Arak health centers were selected by convenience sampling method and then randomly assigned to two groups: music, and control. In the music group, a piece of music without words was played by piano from 3 minutes before vaccination to 3 minutes after that. In the control group, there was no intervention in this case and only routine care was done. Data collection was done using demographic information form and MBPS tool. Then the data was analyzed using SPSS. Results: In this study, 45% of infants were boys. The mean infants’ weight at birth was 3.09±0.40 kg. At the beginning of the study, the mean infants’ weight was 8.34±0.46 kg. The results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups in terms of demographic characteristics. The result indicated that the mean score of pain in intervention and control group were 8.11 ± 0.48, and 9.26±0.49 respectively. The mean and standard deviation of behavioral pain reactions in music group were lower than the control group (P=0.0001). Conclusion: This study showed that the intensity of pain in intervention groups was lower than the control group. Therefore, music can be used to decrease the pain caused by vaccination. Also, this method is suggested in order to manage of vaccination’s pain in infants. Keywords: Music, MBPS, Vaccination, Pain, Infant.
