Background: Bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) is a chronic lung disease commonly observed in premature infants undergoing respiratory assistance. The lungs sustain damage due to supplemental oxygen, barotrauma, and subsequent inflammation. Treatment is supportive, and corticosteroid regimens could be beneficial in improving patient outcomes, yet precise data on the efficacy of these therapeutic strategies are lacking. Purpose: This study aims to investigate the efficacy of three different drug regimens in improving bronchopulmonary dysplasia. Method: This retrospective cohort study, conducted through a medical record review, included a total of 97 premature infants diagnosed with bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in two hospitals in Karaj in 2020. Infants were categorized into three drug therapy groups: single drug therapy (nebulized lasix, inhaled corticosteroids, or intravenous corticosteroids), or a combination of two or three drugs. The duration of hospitalization and the need for oxygen therapy among the therapeutic groups were compared using descriptive statistical methods (median and interquartile range) and analytical methods (Chi-square, Mann–Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test). Results: The use of combined inhaled corticosteroids and nebulized lasix therapy resulted in a significant reduction in the duration of hospitalization and the duration of oxygen therapy (P=0.01 and P0.001, respectively). The use of nebulized lasix contributed to a reduced duration of intubation and feasibility of extubation before 7 days (P0.001).
